Today, Sunday, the European Union mission called for the abolition of all death sentences in Yemen, including those issued by the Houthi rebel authorities against four journalists and activists in the country where the war has entered its eighth year.

On the occasion of the International Day against the Death Penalty, the European Mission to Yemen affirmed “the EU’s strong opposition to the death penalty at all times and circumstances, and its continued work towards abolition of this punishment globally.”

The call comes about a month after a unilateral execution carried out by the Houthis in the capital, Sanaa, against nine suspects accused of espionage, including a minor.
