Today, Tuesday, Kuwaiti Defense Minister Hamad Jaber Al-Ali issued a historic decision allowing women for the first time to join the army as officers and recruits, after their role was previously limited to civilian specializations.

The official news agency (KUNA) said that the decision allows opening the registration door for Kuwaiti women to join the military service as non-commissioned officers, specialty officers and individuals.

However, during this stage, female citizens’ enrollment in the army will be limited to “the field of medical and supportive military services.”

Al-Ali stressed that Kuwaiti women have proven their worth in all fields and in the difficult circumstances the country faced.
