A Yemeni military expert confirmed the military and tribal importance of the Abdiya district in Marib governorate; Due to its geographical location.
Ali al-Dhahab, an expert in military and security affairs, said in an interview with Arabi 21 newspaper: “The importance of the Abdiya district, for the Houthis, lies in the “briefing chain” or “briefing arc”, which the Houthis are trying to draw to control the city of Marib, the center of the governorate. ‘.
He added that “controlling the Abdiya district, south of Marib, means adding a geographical connection between the other districts, and then weakening the defensive ability of Marib, by distributing its forces in a circular defense manner over the city…noting that” the circular defense is collapsible if there are not many forces Take charge of defense operations.
Al-Dhahab pointed out that the Houthis are trying, in one way or another, to open more than one front surrounding the city of Marib, and from the weakest of these fronts, entry is made, or from various of those fronts.
The military analyst considered that “Al-Abdiyyah has a symbolic importance, in that it is the birthplace of the leaders who are still fighting the Houthis, including Major General Abd al-Rab al-Shaddadi, the commander of the third region, who was killed in battles with the Houthis in 2016.”
It is noteworthy that the Houthi militia was finally able to enter the center of the Abdiya district, south of Marib, Bom yesterday, Friday, after a siege that began on September 21, following the neighboring Harib district, coinciding with the rapid and sudden fall of the districts of Baihan and Al-Ain, north and west of Shabwa governorate, south east of the country.
