The US State Department revealed a new deal with the Houthi militia, which resulted in the release of dozens of US embassy employees in Sanaa.

Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper quoted a US State Department official as saying that efforts led by the US envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, resulted in the release of about 30 Yemeni employees last month.

The US official confirmed that there are other detainees in the hands of the Houthis.

The official, who preferred not to be identified, added, “39 of our local employees were detained in Sanaa last month, and they were released through diplomatic efforts led by the US envoy to Yemen in the region, and with the support of our international partners, and a number of our employees are still detained.”

The US official did not reveal the details of the deal, and the return that the militias obtained for the release of the employees.

In turn, Lenderking described the Houthis’ actions as “utterly horrific and unacceptable.”

Earlier, the United States revealed that the Houthis had arrested a number of US embassy employees in Sana’a, without clarifying the date of their arrest.
