Militants affiliated with the Houthi coup militia in Ibb governorate, central Yemen, demanded that school students in the governorate pay 500 riyals for each person to celebrate the Prophet’s birthday.

This comes one day after propaganda directives issued by the militia leader, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, not to take any levies from citizens for the purpose of celebrating the Prophet’s birthday.
The gunmen threatened male and female students with dismissal from studies in the event of non-response and participation in the payment of the sums owed to them.

It is noteworthy that the leader of the group, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, directed to prevent any compulsory financial levy to commemorate the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday, and indicated that if anyone was subjected to pressure to cooperate in commemorating the birthday, he could inform the concerned authorities designated for complaints; In acknowledgment of the tampering of his militia with the rights of citizens by imposing compulsory levies on citizens in exchange for obtaining domestic gas, as well as merchants and shop owners.
