The legitimate government in Yemen has demanded an American intervention to force the Houthi militia to make peace and stop the escalation in Marib.
This came during a meeting today with the Speaker of the Shura Council, Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, with the US Chargé d’Affairs, Cathy Westley, to discuss prospects for permanent and comprehensive peace in Yemen, and ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
Bin Daghr reiterated the position of the legitimate government represented by President Hadi in achieving peace in accordance with the three references, the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the national dialogue, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
Bin Dagher reviewed the current situation in the country, with the escalation of the Houthi militia in Marib, calling on the US government to put more pressure on the Houthis to push them to the dialogue table.
In turn, the Chargé d’Affairs of the US Embassy affirmed the US position in support of the legitimacy, unity, security and stability of Yemen… Reiterating her country’s rejection of the aggressive practices pursued by the Houthis, which undermine international efforts and create more complications on the path to peace.
The American diplomacy stressed the importance of implementing the remaining parts of the Riyadh Agreement, and welcomed the return of the government to Aden, according to what was reported by the Yemeni news agency Saba.
