The Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Al-Tayeb, praised the British Crown Prince, Prince Charles, after meeting him on the sidelines of his current visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Al-Tayeb wrote on his account on the micro-blogging site “Twitter”, “I was pleased to meet Prince Charles at Al-Azhar Mosque, and I found in him a wise and responsible leader, and a fair Western voice in his talk about Islam and Muslims.”
He added, “We discussed the importance of promoting interfaith dialogue, the climate change crisis, and the need to find radical solutions to reduce its danger.”
On Thursday, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, accompanied by Al-Tayeb, toured the Al-Azhar campus.
The British Crown Prince was briefed on the mini-seminars at the mosque, and exchanged in-depth dialogues with professors and students about their ideas of harmony and tolerance between religions.
Prince Charles and his wife arrived in Cairo on Thursday for a second official visit, after their first visit in 2006.
