The United Arab Emirates called on Iran to respect international law and the principles of good neighborliness, to resolve disputes by peaceful means, and to end its occupation of the three Emirati islands, Tunb al-Kubra, Tunb al-Sughra and Abu Musa.

“We will continue to call on Iran to respect international law, the principles of good neighborliness, and resolve disputes by peaceful means,” said Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State in the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a speech at the United Nations General Assembly.

He added: “We reiterate our demand to end Iran’s occupation of the three Emirati islands, Tunb al-Kubra, Tunb al-Sughra and Abu Musa.”

He continued, “The issue of reaching a common understanding with Iran that addresses all regional and international concerns remains a basic demand,” noting that “any future agreement with Iran must address the shortcomings of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and involve the countries of the region.”

This comes in the wake of an absolute Arab consensus on the full sovereignty of the Emirates over its three islands. Tunb al-Kubra, Tunb al-Sughra and Abu Musa, which have been occupied by Iran since the 1970s.
