Today, Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry sent an immediate and important invitation to all Yemeni parties.
Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “Once again, we urge all parties to the Yemeni conflict to show restraint and a responsible approach. The fighting must stop immediately. We are confident that the settlement of the Yemeni crisis can only take place through the development of an objective and constructive dialogue, with the participation of All major political, sectarian and regional forces in the Republic of Yemen.
Zakharova expressed the hope that the new Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, will soon be able to propose practical steps to end the protracted confrontation in Yemen.
She stressed the importance of the UN Security Council sending appropriate incentive signals to the Yemeni parties on a regular basis.
She pointed out that the frequency of Houthi attacks on Saudi territory this year has increased significantly and has taken on a regular nature.
During her response, to a journalist’s question about her assessment of the Houthis’ intensification of their attacks on Saudi economic facilities and oil infrastructure with missiles and drones, she explained: “Airports, energy facilities and other facilities located in the southern region of Saudi Arabia, particularly Jizan, Asir, Najran and other areas, are subjected to missile bombing. Civilians suffer as a result of these attacks. In this way, there is talk of the actual expansion of the war zone to include far beyond the borders of Yemen, where fierce fighting continues and the Arab coalition aircraft are actively operating. During this unfortunately, innocent civilians die en masse, and the social infrastructure is destroyed We have said many times that Russia resolutely condemns any armed actions against civilians and non-military targets. Russia constantly calls for a cessation of violence. We proceed from the fact that the escalation of hostilities threatens to further deteriorate the military-political situation in the region and with catastrophic environmental consequences, It may lead to the suspension of air and sea communications, and negatively affect the global energy market.”
This comes in conjunction with a continuous escalation of the Houthi rebels towards the city of Marib, with the intensification of their missile attacks and their march towards Saudi Arabia.
