Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani said that the explosion that targeted the convoy of Agriculture Minister Salem al-Saqtri and Governor of Aden Ahmed Lamlas in the Tawahi district, killed at least six of Lamlas’ companions and wounded seven others who were at the scene at the time of the explosion.

The explosion damaged several buildings in the area, which were quickly closed by security forces, according to security officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.

Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdul-Malik Saeed described the blast as a “terrorist attack” and ordered an investigation.

No one immediately claimed responsibility.

Aden has witnessed several explosions in the past years, which were blamed on local elements affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.
