Dr. Anna Melikhina, a Russian nutritionist, announced that raisins lower the level of harmful cholesterol and the risk of coronary heart disease.

In an interview with the Russian “Novosti” news agency, the expert advises the necessity of adding raisins to the daily diet, as it is sufficient to eat 25 grams of raisins per day.

“Raisins contain flavonoids, which have antioxidant properties, lower the level of bad cholesterol and improve the elasticity of blood vessels, thus lowering the risk of coronary heart disease,” she says.

The expert notes that red grapes contain a higher percentage of antioxidants than white grapes.

“Add raisins to porridge, pies and salads for dietary fibre, vitamins and a delicious taste,” she says.

She adds that eating a large amount of raisins can cause diarrhea, nausea, and even vomiting. Therefore, it is not recommended to take black raisins with antibiotics, because it reduces the amount of medicine absorbed by the body.
